About Me- Part 1

I started sewing when I was in about 5th or 6th grade. I made simple skirts with zippers, and added groovy fabric to the bottoms of my jeans 

I got married very young and we bought a house right away. I made lined drapes completely by hand- didn’t have a sewing machine! (I can’t imagine having time for that!)

I did get a machine pretty quickly- and it’s still my primary machine! Luckily, my husband’s family was very creative and I became part of a community of makers- especially one of my sisters-in-law, who introduced me to quilting. Back then, “quilting fabric” wasn’t a thing- it was just starting to exist and we were lucky enough to live near enough to Boston so that we could go to the only place that had the fabrics we wanted, in Harvard Square. I got the fabrics for the baby quilt I made for my first child there, and I still have the quilt!

Even back then, when “country” was in style- earth tones, dusty blues & pinks, etc., ...I was looking for color! The best I could do at the time was Amish quilts, which I still love!

There was a quilt guild that met nearby, which my SIL and I joined. This was a group of very talented and prolific quilters who really expanded my horizons and made me aware of the quilting world.
